"LIGHT OF TEMPLE" is a artwork based on the phenomenon discovered while creating.This is installed at Myojuji temple (Tokyo) .
First, I found a light reflection on the ceiling which reminds of the water surface. I wondered "Why I felt nature by seeing this light?"On another day, another light appeared inside the light, the depth of the light changed as the curtains winded with the wind. It felt like a living thing.Rather than feeling "nature" by the shape, metamorphosing constantly will invoke memory of "nature" inside our body.
By the "architecture" vessel, our senses are focused more on the inside.
Depending on time / season, you can see various light expressions. Please experience the mysterious phenomenon of light in a harsh space.
「アートが統合されて建築に昇華する」という思想が色濃く見ることができる寺院。
本院は、世田谷区北烏山にある本覺山妙壽寺（法華宗・本門流)）の別院で、2017年5月に新設された。寺院といえば、一般的には木造の寺社建築をイメージするのではないだろうか？ しかし本院は、内田祥哉氏（東京大学名誉教授）、三浦清史氏の設計デザイン監修により、「伝統技術」と「現代建築」が融合した、コンクリート打ち放しのモダンなつくりが特徴である。ご本尊が安置された八角宮殿の上部は、高さ12mにも及ぶ吹き抜け天井になっており、自然の光を使ったアートが採用され、作品に合わせ音楽も制作することとなった。
「LIGHT OF TEMPLE」は、2012年の作品制作過程で発見した現象を元に、新たなアート作品へと展開したものである。当時、アトリエでの作業中に、天井に水面を思わせる光の反射が現れていた。床の反射材を認識するよりも先に「何故、私はこの光を見て、自然を感じられたか？」と疑問に思った。別の日には、光の中にまた別の光が現れ、風でカーテンが靡くごとに光の奥行きが変わり、まるで生き物のように感じた。形によって「自然」を感じるのでなく、絶えずメタモルフォーゼすることが私たちの身体内部にある自然の記憶を呼び覚ますのではないだろうか。
「建築」という器によって、私たちの感覚はより内面にフォーカスされる。さらに「寺院」という特殊な環境が空間への礼節をもたらし、人々の心に強く響き渡る。時間・季節によって、さまざまな表情を見せ、移ろう光の神秘的な現象を、厳かな空間で体感してほしい。
